The annual meeting of the Madison Curling Club was held on April 13, 2011, in the clubroom. The meeting was called to order by President Larry Baeder, with approximately 85 members in attendance. Board candidates were introduced and a final call for ballots was made. President Baeder discussed the tax issues that arose this past year and explained areas of responsibility for the two entities operating our club, Madison Curling Club and Madison Curling Foundation. The MCF continues its 501(c)(3) non-profit status, while the MCC is established as a 501(c)(7) sport and social organization.
MCC Treasurer Jeff Sailor reported that our membership total for the past season was 546, revenues were up, and the Halloween Spiel, Cash Spiel, Fowler event and State Junior playdowns brought in about $11,700. He also reported both the operating budget and the capital budget ended with a surplus.
MCF Treasurer Rob Wixson and MCC Board member Troy Mayne elaborated on the balloon payment due March 2016 and the launching of the Take Out the Loan campaign. Our current loan balance is $268,000. Rob thanked Mike Kosovec, Tony Wendricks and Steve Elmer for running the golf outing, steak week and corned beef dinners, respectively. Their fundraising efforts have resulted in $76,000 over the years.
President Baeder thanked the many club members for volun-teering their time and talents this past season to keep our club events running smoothly. He presented Special Recognition Awards to the following: Jennifer Rhude Krug, Lester Boles, Dick Nawtratil, Mark Hartman, Jeremy Roe, Scott Reich, Mark Zylkowski, Mike Kosovec and Tony Wendricks. He then presented the Cottrell Service Award to Brian Bergen for so ably running the Halloween Bonspiel for 23 years.
Honorary and Life Member Committee Chair Randy Blumer announced that the Board had accepted the committee’s recom-mendation of an Honorary Membership to Mary Ann Jerred.
Event pins were distributed to the 2010-2011 season men’s, women’s and open league winners. Newly elected Board members are Craig Cullum, Garret Perry, Jeff Robinson.
At the May 12th Board of Directors meeting at the home of Past President Larry Baeder, the Board elected Tim Ebert president and Troy Mayne vice president; Jeff Sailor will continue as treasurer and Dae Jean Jahnke as secretary.
Your Board of Directors and other committees continued tending to the business of the Madison Curling Club during the summer months, in preparation for the upcoming season. For their considerable efforts on our behalf, we are grateful.
