During the weekend of February 22-24, John Shuster and the Duluth curling club hosted the inaugural 5 and Under National Bonspiel. The MCC was well-represented with four teams of Madison curlers having five or fewer years of curling experience.
To qualify for this event, teams must have won or been a runner-up in a 5 & under bonspiel the previous year. The event hosted 32 teams from all around the nation, including New York, Pennsylvania, Connecticut, the Carolinas, Illinois, California, Colorado, Michigan, Minnesota, and Wisconsin.
Madison teams were fierce competitors and had a great showing! Team Swanson advanced to semifinals in the C event. Teams Aro, Hampton, and Ramm all advanced to A-event quarterfinal games. Team Hampton and team Ramm both moved on to the A-event semifinals where they would lose in close games that both came down to a final shot.
One of the most exciting takeaways from this event is realizing how competitive our young up-and-coming curlers are at the Madison club. It’s clear that we have a fantastic instructional program and we do a great job mentoring our new curlers.
Be sure to congratulate those that participated in this event when you see them around the club!
